A Confident Refresh for a Creative Brand
City Color Cosmetics needed a visual transformation that reflected the evolving spirit of its audience—bold, expressive, and unafraid to stand out. The objective was to modernize the brand while preserving its accessibility and playful edge, ensuring it resonated with a new generation of beauty enthusiasts who value individuality, inclusivity, and self-expression. A key priority was reinforcing the brand’s commitment to cruelty-free and vegan offerings, values that strongly influence younger consumers and align with their lifestyle choices. The refreshed direction aimed to position the brand as both empowering and versatile: a go-to for experimental, statement-making looks while still remaining approachable for everyday wear.

We developed a flexible visual system designed to mirror the creativity of the people who use the products. Clean structural layouts were paired with layered compositions, tactile-inspired textures, and dimensional graphic elements to evoke the sensory nature of makeup itself—pigment, finish, and blendability translated into design. The updated palette introduced richer contrasts and bolder tones to amplify energy and confidence, while typography remained modern and clear to ground the visuals in clarity. Messaging centered on empowerment, experimentation, and inclusivity, ensuring every brand interaction reinforced the idea that makeup is a tool for self-expression rather than conformity.
